Ras Laffan Petrochemicals, in which QatarEnergy owns a 70% equity share and Chevron Phillips Chemical 30%. Chevron Phillips Chemical will provide project management services.
Project Description
The 176 ha project site will include an ethane cracker with a capacity of 2.1-million tonnes a year of ethylene, making it the biggest ethane cracker in the Middle East and one of the biggest in the world.
It will also include two high-density polyethylene derivative units with a total capacity of 1.68-million tonnes a year.
The facility will be built using modern, energy-saving technology. Ethane will be used as feedstock, which, along with other measures, is expected to result in lower greenhouse-gas emissions than those of similar global facilities.
